22 Britannia Road

22 Britannia Road by Amanda Hodgkinson

Amazon Description:

“With World War II finally over, Silvana and her seven-year-old son, Aurek, board the ship that will take them to England, where Silvana's husband, Janusz—determined to forget his ghosts—has rented a little house at 22 Britannia Road. But after years spent hiding in the forests of Poland, Aurek is wild, almost feral. And for Silvana, who cannot escape the painful memory of a shattering wartime act, forgetting is not a possibility.”

My Thoughts:

Hodgkinson is a talented author. I loved parts of this novel, but not all.

In my opinion, the best writing was the love between Silvana and Aurek. Their mother-child connection was palpable.

On the flip-side, I felt the pace was a little slow and the plot a little too complex.

Overall I enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to the historical fiction fan.
