Dream Lake

Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas

Amazon Description:

“One of three Nolan brothers who call Friday Harbor home, Alex Nolan is about as bitter and cynical as they come. He battles his demons with the help of a whiskey bottle, and he lives in his own private hell. And then, a ghost shows up. Only Alex can see him. Has he finally crossed over the threshold to insanity?

Zoë Hoffman is a born romantic. When she meets the startlingly gorgeous Alex Nolan, all her instincts tell her to run. Even Alex tells her to run. But Zoë somehow manages to open his mind to the possibility that old ghosts can breathe new life into a broken soul--and that love can reach beyond time, space, and reason to take hold of hearts that yearn for it. . . .”

My Thoughts:

Lisa Kleypas has an amazing talent for writing chemistry and emotion into her characters. I became hooked on her historical romance books and have loved almost every one she has written.

This particular book is in her newest contemporary series—Friday Harbor. I was hesitant because I am not usually into any type of magical or ghost theme, but I found myself loving this one in spite of that. Alex’s character is well-done and I enjoyed the emotional connection between him and Zoe. I recommend anything written by Kleypas!

Milk and Honey

Milk and Honey by Faye Kellerman

This is the next installment in the Peter Decker crime drama series. Honestly, I’m still on the fence about this series. I like the suspense. I like Peter’s character. But I absolutely hate his relationship with Rina. Something keeps me following along though and I’m going to read the next!

Love You More

Love You More by Lisa Gardner

Amazon Description:

“WHO DO YOU LOVE?
Brian Darby lies dead on the kitchen floor. His wife, state police trooper Tessa Leoni, claims to have shot him in self-defense, and bears the bruises to back up her tale. For veteran detective D. D. Warren it should be an open-and-shut case. But where is their six-year-old daughter?

AND HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO . . .
As the homicide investigation ratchets into a frantic statewide search for a missing child, D. D. Warren must partner with former lover Bobby Dodge to break through the blue wall of police brotherhood, seeking to understand the inner workings of a trooper’s mind while also unearthing family secrets. Would a trained police officer truly shoot her own husband? And would a mother harm her own child?

. . . TO SAVE HER?
For Tessa Leoni, the worst has not yet happened. She is walking a tightrope, with nowhere to turn and no one to trust. She has one goal in sight, and she will use every ounce of her training to do what must be done. No sacrifice is too great, no action unthinkable. A mother knows who she loves. And all others will be made to pay.”

My Thoughts:

I have had many suggestions to read Lisa Gardner. I really enjoyed her style. This book was unique, suspenseful and a little dark. I really enjoyed it and I am now looking forward to reading more by Gardner. This book is part of a series following female detective DD Warren. Back to the beginning I go!
