Merciless

Merciless by Mary Burton

Romantic suspense recommendation today...

"Merciless" is the sequel to “Senseless,” but could be read as a stand alone. Can detective Malcolm Kier find the killers before Angie becomes the final victim?

Burton has a good balance of character development, emotional intrigue and strong suspense. I enjoy her stories.

All That Glitters

All That Glitters by Linda Howard

I enjoy a strong male character in the romance genre, but this one took it too far. This relationship was blatantly abusive….not just dysfunctional, but abusive.

Apparently I am in good company with this opinion, as can be seen in the Amazon reviews.

Horrible book…definitely skip!

Hiroshima

Hiroshima by John Hersey

From Amazon.com:

“On August 6, 1945, Hiroshima was destroyed by the first atom bomb ever dropped on a city. This book, John Hersey's journalistic masterpiece, tells what happened on that day. Told through the memories of survivors, this timeless, powerful and compassionate document has become a classic "that stirs the conscience of humanity" (The New York Times).”

My thoughts:

This is a very powerful book. Hersey puts a human face on the bombing of Hiroshima. Most historical accounts do not take this perspective. With powerful imagery, six survivors tell their stories. Outstanding journalism.

The Hunt

The Hunt by Allison Brennan

Maybe I was in a bad mood when I read this one...it was a decent suspense but I felt really “blah” about it.

Typical serial killer story—predictable outcome. The characters were pretty standard. I enjoy Brennan, but wasn’t in love with this one.

Club Dead

Club Dead by Charlaine Harris

In the next installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series, Sookie is off to save Bill. Bill has been very distant and Sookie needs to find out why, while also saving his life.

I enjoyed this one and I’m still interested in this series. However, I feel like I’m losing a little steam. We’ll see what the next one brings! I want to be enthralled…or I’ll have to quit.

Stop the Wedding

Stop the Wedding by Stephanie Bond

I read this on the Kindle on a long car trip. I wouldn’t recommend it. Very shallow characters, redundant conversations and boring plot.  I didn’t like any of the characters!

I have heard good things about this author, but if this is her style I am hesitant to try another!
