The Forgotten Waltz by Anne Enright
I had mixed feelings on this one. While I enjoyed the texture of
Enright’s work, I felt it needed some serious editing.
Centered on adultery, the plot jumps from point to point. The author leaves
many of these plot points unresolved, I found myself confused about what was happening. Gina, the main character, is obsessed with her affair. She pines, she whines…she is pathetic. Sean is a
neglectful Father, the worst kind of adulterer.
It is hard to enjoy a story when the
characters are so unlikable. I might try something else by Enright, but this isn’t
a book I would recommend.
