Random list of 10 books Monday! I have read and enjoyed each of these enough to flag for a potential personal library purchase.

Intimacy

Intimacy by Hanif Kureishi

This is not an uplifting read, but rather a strongly emotional tale of man's quest for fulfillment. The narrator is middle-aged and bored with the life he leads of stability and domesticity. He makes the decision to leave his wife and two young sons for a younger woman. He is always searching for that desirous feeling of being wanted and treasured. A mid-life crisis? Perhaps. Kureishi pens the emotions felt in a long marriage and the desire for something new and different. I found this to be both sad and honest. Kureishi has a talent for true emotional depiction.

The Buddha of Suburbia

Hanif Kureishi is another favorite author of mine. “The Buddha of Suburbia” did not disappoint. I fell in love with the eccentric characters.

This is a coming of age novel depicting a character who is different from those around him. Kureishi tells Karim’s story with his witty, descriptive talent. Karim, in trying to find himself, is rebelling against the suburban middle class conformists.

There is some harsh content (sex, drugs, adultery, etc) so if you are easily offended, skip this one. Otherwise you should check it out this humorous yarn.
