Love and Skate

Love and Skate by Lila Felix

Amazon Description:

“On the rink she’s tough, she’s a leader, she’s fast and she’s the epitome of a rebellious girl. But Nellie’s been hurt, only once, but it was enough to make her look at life through different eyes and off the rink she’s a timid girl who loves with no pretenses.

A long time ago Owen Black was betrayed by the girl he thought he loved and the guy he called his best friend. The anguish set off a domino effect of negativity in his life and he never has fully recovered. He meets Nellie Forrester and thinks he can let it go for her.
But how can you love someone when the wounds from your past are still wide open?”

My Thoughts:

This was a cute, but definitely geared toward a younger (late teen/early 20’s) audience. I was pretty bored with the pace and the “conflict” was really silly.

Infinity Series

Infinity series by Layne Harper

Ugh…another series that follows the same characters through multiple books. I read the first two—“Falling Into Infinity” and “From Now Until Infinity.” But…surprise!...there are more. (Eye roll here).

I’m completely over these authors who break one story into 4+ installments. I probably would have really liked this book condensed…I sort of liked it, which is why I read 2 (or maybe I was bored).

I’m finally learning to pay attention to the descriptions/reviews and not even START books like this. Hate this fad.

Long Walk to Freedom

Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela

This book certainly takes a time commitment, but it’s worth it. I love to read about passionate people and I enjoyed Mandela’s vision, perspective and candor. His memoir is educational and inspirational.

The Raven Prince

The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt

Amazon Description:

“Widowed Anna Wren is having a wretched day. After an arrogant man on horseback nearly crushes her, she arrives home to learn that she is in dire financial straits.

The Earl of Swartingham is in a quandary. Having frightened off two secretaries, Edward de Raaf needs someone who can withstand his bad temper and boorish behavior.

When Anna becomes the earl's secretary, it would seem that both their problems are solved. But when she discovers he plans to visit the most notorious brothel in London, she sees red-and decides to assuage her desires . . .”

My Thoughts:

I loved Anna and Edward. The wicked man and the smart beauty who tames him…one of my favorite themes! I enjoy Hoyt’s voice and her talent for character development. Historical romance fans should definitely give her work a try.

On a side note, it’s funny how both characters are described as relatively ugly in the book…but on the cover there are two perfect looking people!
